Connector has developed a tool to help block homophobic comments!
Happy Pride Month, everyone!
Here at Connector, we’ve developed something really special to celebrate Pride 2017.
The internet can be a nasty place sometimes. So, in an attempt to make it a little more of a positive space, we developed and launched our free #LoveWins Google Chrome extension.
The #LoveWins tool filters online content in search for homophobic or transphobic comments, and replaces them with positive adjectives that celebrate what people in the community are: proud, courageous, fearless, friendly. The tool also decorates the replacement words with the Pride colours.
Ivan Adriel, Connector’s CSO pushed to develop the #LoveWins tool due to the high levels of online abuse aimed at LGBT people. According to GLSEN, 42% of LGBQTA+ youth have experienced cyber bullying, 58% say something bad is said to them or about them online just because of their sexuality and over 35% of LGBT youth have received online threats.
Ivan said: “Connector is a proud supporter of the LGBT community and this Pride we wanted to do something that would help make the internet a better place for us all. So we created the tool that we wanted to exist when we were teenagers and searching for our identity online.”
The extension was designed to protect people from being part of these statistics and for anyone who believes that #LoveIsLove and wants to get rid of all online negativity.
You can download the #LoveWins extension for free on the Google Chrome store – www.connector.ie/pride
We’re delighted to say we’ve received lots of positive responses to the extension. The #LoveWins tool has gained coverage in 10 countries! You can check out some of the press coverage below:
